The House of Hazel itself is the original property brought by my Nana & Grandad in the 1950’s. I have so many fond memories growing up there as a young girl with my Granded, Geo, and my Nana, Hazel. Hazel's Homestead as well as the entire HOH property, has undergone a complete renovation. The House of Hazel consists of 4 very different accommodation options on an oversized residential section. The Homestead is the largest of the 4, a 3 bed home situated at the very front of the property. 3 other accommodation spaces are also available, with each one designed to sit very private & seperate from each other. Hazel's Homestead embodies a feeling of safety, warmth & love. You'll find 3 private, roomy bedrooms with very comfortable beds and bedding. The bathroom has an extra large shower and hot hot water with amazing pressure. Featuring a large kitchen, larger lounge with a 50” TV and every SKY channel and a seperate dining area your family can share stories of their day over dinner. Hazel's Homestead has been built for the sun and is drenched with all day natural light.

Hazel's Homestead is stand alone with entry through the front door from the roadside.. The entire house is available for you to enjoy as your own space. We also have commercial laundry facilities on site behind the house – details provided in your HOH Guest Info.

The House of Hazel is very special to me. During the birth of the project I decided to pay homage to my Nana, a forward thinking and wise woman, naming the property, The House of Hazel, after her. She was warm, welcoming and her baking tins were always full to the brim for the family! Nana loved birds and cultivated a gathering place for local birds by feeding them a loaf a day! We have kept her bird houses and you wont miss the sounds of the birds nesting in the evening or singing away to each other during the day. We have done our best to anticipate your needs and have your accommodation well appointed for your stay. You will find everything from a hair dryer, iron etc right through to every cable tv channel, washing facilities, cookie time biscuits for your tea and chocolate on your pillow!
We use only green, organic and eco friendly cleaning materials and supplies to insure that we are doing our bit for the environment.
Also we have commercial laundry facilities available 24/7 for guests. Please feel free to enquire for further info :-)
The gym available is located at 30 Tainui Street, Matamata approximately 1km away from the House of Hazel. There is a small fee to use the gym.

You’ll find at The House of Hazel you’re oh so central to everything you will need while you’re in Matamata. Located in a residential neighbourhood, circa 1km to Matamata town centre where you will find bars, restaurants and shops as well as the i-site bus stop to Hobbiton Movie Set & Tours. We are around the corner from Matamata Racecourse and are on the way to Hobbiton Movie Set & Tours. Matamata truly is very centrally positioned, putting all tourist attractions in the region within reach. Walking routes and hiking trails are plentiful as well as new cycle ways and after a day of exercise there are many different natural hot springs to enjoy.
Matamata is a very walkable place if you are so inclined, otherwise it is easy to drive around in. There are also taxi’s operating most of the day, everyday. HOH is 1km to Matamata town centre, 9km to Hobbiton Movie Set & Tours. There are buses that stop through Matamata to head to other towns and cities in NZ.
